Karyn Henwood was born and raised in Vancouver, B.C. (a rarity!) and went to Point Grey High School, UBC, SFU and the Institute of Children’s Literature. She lives in Lynn Valley, North Vancouver in a house on a ravine and keeps an eye out every day for the latest critters to stop by. Some of the more unusual ones are bears, a bobcat, a barred owl, a coyote, skunks, a cheeky red squirrel that came in and sat on the couch, raccoons and over 57 different species of birds that show up for a free meal! Really! Karyn is happily married to her husband Bill and has three great grown kids in her life, Lisa, Dean and Lindsay, who are brilliant, beautiful and wise.
When she’s not writing, Karyn loves to cook big family dinners, play the piano and guitar, decorate her garden, bike, hike, kayak and travel the world!
Karyn taught Kindergarten to grade 2 at Prince Charles Elementary in Surrey for 25 years, retiring in 2010. She loves running into former students but must apologize for sometimes forgetting their names. They change so much over the years and she did teach 550 kids to read!
Karyn is passionate about literacy and making reading fun for kids. She knows that their brains really are like sponges and she tries to challenge them with new vocabulary and interesting facts that go along with her stories. Of course a little humour binds it all together. Cowabunga!
This is Karyn's first picture book: there are more in the wings! She has also been published in Spider Magazine, March, 2015 (Sundog Sky)
Karyn would love to hear what you think of Too Hot to Moo!
BONNIE LEMAIRE - Illustrator
IN THE BEGINNING- Bonnie Lemaire began her career as a freelance illustrator with her first promotional post card in 1989. She graduated from Ontario College of Art’s communication and design program in 1992 and took a position as artist/designer with Ganz and Brothers Canada. It was a valuable experience, catapulting her into a successful freelance career where she applied all her experience, hard work and versatility into a variety of new directions. Bonnie has seen her work utilized in many different projects, including home décor, giftware, sticker and toy design and children’s books.
MY WORK- Bonnie's eternal optimism is the foundation of every drawing. Flowing from her pencils and tips of her brushes into her creative and eye catching pieces, comical and curious creatures dance on the page. Children's book illustration is her passion. Integrating eccentric creations within fantastical stories brings smiles to small faces, and delight to her readers all over the world.
